The electric bus revolution continues to grow. The latest news in this regard, arriving yesterday, comes from Hamburg, Germany, and Daimler Buses. Daimler has been tapped by Hamburger Hochbahn AG to supply the transit agency with 350 electric buses. In particular, these will be Mercedes-Benz eCitaro and Mercedes-Benz eCitaro G city buses.

Mercedes-Benz eCitaro with all-electric drive, two door, exterior, anthracite metallic, 2 x electric hub motor, 2 x 125 kW, 2 x 485 Nm, 5 HV battery pack, 64,5 kWh per HV battery pack (NMC 3), Preventive Brake Assist, Sideguard Assist, 360 degree camera, LED headlamps, length/width/height: 12135/2550/3400 mm, passenger capacity: 1/86. “Hamburger Hochbahn AG was particularly impressed by the low total cost of ownership (TCO) and the ease of repair of the eCitaro over the entire long service life of the electric buses to be supplied by Daimler Buses,” Daimler writes.

“Daimler Buses is enthusiastic about this exclusive contract as a provider of sustainable e-bus solutions. The Mercedes-Benz eCitaro once again received the ‘Electric Bus Champion’ award in 2024 and will be the perfect partner for Hamburger Hochbahn AG on its journey to convert its entire bus fleet to environmentally friendly e-mobility.”

Mercedes-Benz eCitaro G with all-electric drive, four door, Interior, Seat covers: red, Active filter with antiviral function, 2 x electric hub motor, 2 x 125 kW, 2 x 485 Nm, 6 battery packs (NMC 3), 98 kWh per battery pack, Sideguard Assist, Preventive Brake Assist, LED headlamps, length/width/height: 18125/2550/3350 mm, passenger capacity: 1/157. Indeed. And congratulations to Daimler. There are several electric bus models that have scooped up a lot of orders in recent years, and the eCitaro is one of them, so it is clearly a competitive, high quality model.

The eCitaro buses Hamburg will be receiving will use NMC3 batteries. The assistance systems include Preventive Brake Assist and Sideguard Assist. Some of the drive-assist features “go far beyond what is required by the General Safety Regulation (GSR) of the European Union,” Daimler adds.

Hamburg intends to have 100% of its bus fleet zero-emissions buses driving on green electricity by “the beginning of the 2030s.” Hamburger Hochbahn AG already won the German Sustainability Award 2024.
