When I think of making a deal with the Warner Brothers, it seems like an impossible thing. Pee Wee Herman only got to make a deal with them after they bought his stolen bike and he trashed the place trying to steal it back. And if you were a kid in the 90s, you probably know that the Warner Brothers (and the Warner Sister, Dot) would be difficult to have a business meeting with anyway. But, EVgo recently made an announcement that shows that it really is possible to make a deal with Warner Brothers, at least in the real world.
EVgo recently announced a collaboration with Warner Bros. Pictures to coincide with the release of the upcoming movie Shazam! Fury of the Gods. Select stations will feature decals from the movie, and active EVgo account holders who take a selfie and post it on social media from any of these branded stations will receive 250 bonus EVgo Rewards points for a limited time.
EVgo stations in major cities across the United States, such as Los Angeles, San Francisco, Seattle, San Diego, and Denver will feature branding from the upcoming movie Shazam! Fury of the Gods. Charging station decals will showcase Shazam and his fellow foster kids’ adult Super Hero alter-egos.
“EVgo customers are already heroes in our book, and we’re excited to continue our partnership with Warner Bros. to give drivers the chance to take selfies with images of their favorite DC Super Heroes from the big screen,” said Jonathan Levy, Chief Commercial Officer at EVgo. “EVgo Rewards was designed to give customers more benefits, and this Shazam! Fury of the Gods partnership gives them the opportunity to power up to earn free charging even faster.”
In 2021, EVgo launched its Rewards program, the first of its kind that allows electric vehicle drivers to earn points when they charge at an EVgo station. Points can also be earned through engaging with EVgo’s social media posts, visiting its website, and more. Upon reaching 2000 reward points, customers can redeem a $10 charging credit at any participating EVgo station.
Obviously, 250 EVgo points won’t take you very far (especially at some of the peak rates I’ve seen), but this does show us that EV charging has become mainstream enough to be used in promotions for things like movies. If EV drivers put their selfie on social media with the stations that have Shazam stickers, that’s apparently enough motivation for Warner Brothers to make a deal.
Now, the real question is whether Pinky and the Brain could come up with a way to use the apparent influence of EV drivers to somehow take over the world. Or, will Shazam step in and stop them before their plot inevitably fails and Pinky gets shipped back to Japan inside a busted Nissan LEAF battery pack? The Warner Brothers (and Dot) are the only ones who know the answer to all of this, but their pay for play (or is it play-or-pay?) contracts expired a long time ago, so they’re not talking, and The Clinton is too busy playing The Sax to ask.

I don’t like paywalls. You don’t like paywalls. Who likes paywalls? Here at CleanTechnica, we implemented a limited paywall for a while, but it always felt wrong — and it was always tough to decide what we should put behind there. In theory, your most exclusive and best content goes behind a paywall. But then fewer people read it! We just don’t like paywalls, and so we’ve decided to ditch ours. Unfortunately, the media business is still a tough, cut-throat business with tiny margins. It’s a never-ending Olympic challenge to stay above water or even perhaps — gasp — grow. So …
