BYD Commercial Vehicle Sales Soar 763% in January — CHARTS

In addition to great sales growth in BYD passenger plugin vehicle sales, BYD followed up a good year of commercial vehicle sales growth in 2024 with an even better start to 2025 — a much better start. Overall, BYD commercial electric vehicle sales grew 763% in January 2025 compared to January 2024.

BYD’s electric bus sales actually declined in January 2025, from 325 to 286 units (-12%). Of course, bus sales — like other commercial vehicle sales — rise and fall considerably from month to month.

Yes, that means non-bus commercial vehicle sales grew even more than 763%! In fact — make sure you’re sitting down — BYD’s non-bus commercial electric vehicle sales grew 2454% in January 2025 compared to January 2024!

Rather than the 149 sales BYD scored in January 2024, the company ended January 2025 with 3,806 new sales.

Importantly, as reader Larry Evans notes, “When considering the charts, keep in mind that Lunar New Year fell in February last year and January this year. The corresponding seasonal dip has already seen its peak this year.” Of course, with commercial vehicle sales being such a roller coaster, the Lunar New Year may not have such a big impact on this portion of the market as the passenger vehicle market. We’ll see what 2o25 brings.
